Beastie Boys are Rolling Stones Magazine Artist of the year!

They won so many awards in 1999 that I can't even remember, but include two Grammy Awards, MTV lifetime achievement award, and more.

Adam Horovitz (Ad Rock) at aNaLoG.MaN. In December, Adam came and picked up his Maestro Rover that I found for him. A rover is a spinning speaker, like a leslie.

If you saw me at the NY vintage guitar shows the last several years you may have seen this T-Shirt on me, now it is much cooler!!! Pictured is Adam's Maestro Rhythm 'n sound for guitar.

From the rolling stone site, Adam with an E-mu SP-1200 sampling drum machine- preferred by the hip hop contingent for it's grungy "old school" 12 bit sampling.

My T-Shirt and credentials from the 1/28/99 concert

I attended the Benefit concert in NJ with Rage Against the Machine and Beastie Boys (and a few more bands), it went quite well in spite of the controversy. The crowd was very appreciative of Beastie Boys wide assortment of musical styles. And RAGE really rocked!!! Beastie Boys expressed sincere sympathy for the family of the police officer who was killed, and asked for understanding why, for all of our freedom, there should be a fair trial for Mumia. About $500,000 was raised at the show.

Click for ICFI article about this case.

Beastie Boys went off to Japan and Australia for the month of February, 1999 (had to cancel most of February due to a problem). I didn't get much time with the guys at the show but got to watch them warm up for the concert by playing basketball backstage!
