Road Atlanta IMSA GT3 Cup - round1 April 15-17 2005

Back in Atlanta two weeks after the PCA race, hoping for some good luck this weekend. This story will be mostly pictures as it was a while ago and my memory has never been that good anyway...

This is the first ever Porsche Cup race held in the USA, sponsored by IMSA, Porsche, Michelin, and others. FOr more info see imsaracing.net .

Here are some awesome Race shots on the IMSA site.

I found some looseness in the Right Rear suspension, Spencer found it was the heim joint that they did not have in stock when he replaced the bent tie rod. They had it in stock now and replaced it. Thanks guys!!

The car looked pretty good from this side. Handling was not quite as good as at the PCA race as IMSA made us raise the ride heights and remove spacers, tech was very strict and many cars needed to be recheched. The cars do not handle quite as well at the IMSA height.

More random track shots below.

Here is my car in our paddock under the big tent. We had about 6 on one side and 3 more including Wolf's Speedvision car on the other side. This was before we added more associate sponsors' logos (CDOC, BBS, BMC etc).

Here is Wolf Henzler's car being aligned on the platforms. A very nice setup allowing crawling underneath to adjust things. Wolf's car is set up to speedvision specs, with a much more powerful engine but Toyo R1 street tires (DOT legal race tires) so speed is similar to our GT3 cup cars.

Wolf's car is the same one that won Daytona this year. He has had a tough year racing in the USA, although very fast has not won yet and Atlanta was no kinder, with 2 sick engines and contact in the race taking him out after running very well.

Here Greg Loles and some PCMA guys check out one of Wolf's sick engines. Lawson Aschenbach has a sick look on his face, he has his own problems which you will see below.

Here is Wolf with me, we both had bad days but will hope for the best in Ohio! Wolf has the eyes of a genius, I hope I can learn from him. He must be the best 911 driver in the world.

Here are Shawn Price and Keith Alexander, two of my teammates who are both renting cars from F-L. Shawn co-drove with Wolf to win Daytona this year, what an awesome experience! Ask him about racing bikes in the Paris-Dakar rally for some amazing stories... Keith is a PCA driver from the Northeast but I had never really met him. Both guys are very friendly and helpful, especially Keith who is especially kind.

This is Shawn's car, known as KERMIT, is has raced a lot and done well. Keith's car is seen under the tent, being aligned. Keith's car is from the Asia Carrera Cup and a twin to Wolf's car in appearance. Shawn drove here for the first time at the PCA race and was not very happy with his performance. Extremely intelligent, he analyzed his data and learned exactly what he needed to do to improve.

Here are Paul Orwicz and Spencer Cox. Paul is from NYC, another PCA racer from the NE and has a clean 2005 cup car. Spencer is in charge of all the Farnbacher-Loles cars.
Here is Shawn and Roger Garbow. Roger is our Marketing guy and took most of the on track pictures you see here. Roger is a lot of help at the track.

Lawson is one of our two Formula car drivers, along with Ricardo Imery, who are our fastest drivers. Lawson is in college, he crashed on the warmup lap in qualifying and really damaged the brand new 2003 tub of his rental car.

Here is Lawson's car heading for a midnight auto body repair after the mechanicals were removed. It was a temporary repair so he could race, they did a great job. My qualifying was damage free but I did poorly, when I finally had some clear laps I made mistakes on all three of them. We lost a lot of time due to yellow flag laps so I never got close to the one fast lap I had in the PCA club race.
Here is the fender after repair, looks good at 150!

Next page is some of the RACE GIRLS and other pre race pictures, you can skip if it it's not your bag or if your boss will peek in .
